I feel devastated as I am on the precipice of experiencing and going through all of this. I am utterly terrified for my son to experience trauma and emotional chaos for the rest of his life as a result of a divorce / separation. I want him the absolute best in every single aspect of life, I have heard succeeds stories for children coming from divorced parents, and horror stories. I am embarrassed and ashamed that this is what it has come down to, and don’t know how I can survive it either emotionally.

Thank you Rachel. I believe you hit the nail on the head. My wife had felt that. I have also felt that for many years as well. I felt lonely, disconnected and Like could not go on. But even in feeling that way. I was never going to divorce her. We had too many wonderful things in our relationship and a bright future. Things changed when she finally had the money to divorce me. I was shocked that she said she would plunge our family into debt if we were poor to divorce me.

Why don't any of these Utube Channels talk about the grey divorce when the older person gets divorced left pennyless and don't recover financially and has no support system?

It is a huge injustice... emotionally, mentally, spiritually, monetarily and so much more. Too many spouses just give up and run away, hoping to find happiness somewhere else, when they should have attempted to work it out. The fact is... BOTH partners have made mistakes, and both need forgiveness and the humility to change.

The comments make me think they are fresh into this new identity and still want to talk about what the ex did. Been there, only time heals those feelings. Took me 2 years of staring at a blank wall knowing i was the towns dinner table discussions and then walking amongst them during the day knowing they see me differently now. After 3 years it clicked. now, 4 years later, i am not the same person, i am a new identity, and i accept it. All the old friends dont call anymore because they knew me as a couple. My partner is sweet but. . . I get ZERO comfort from them. We’re currently having to long distance because I gotta be with family for bit. But even before long distance I never got comfort all they wanted to hear was they were right. I was feeling really sad today because I missed them and all I got was “well I told you not to go” and it’s like that all the time. Or it’s “well you could’ve stayed home” I’m always the one who has to say “oh I really miss you” or “I saw this at the store/town and thought of you” I have to give all the comfort in this relationship:( I just wish I could hear I miss you too every now and then

Rachel, I have recently discovered and am consuming your videos that seem to be on point on so many areas. I was married for 23 years. Divorced for almost 4 now. I am so tempted to send this to my X to see what she thinks. I’ve made so many mistakes after the divorce would that be another one. I’m really curious because she never was good at communicating.

For those like myself (Major Depression. I don't have extreme up and downs like those with bi-polar it's always a gauge of lows.) it makes it worse when dealing with a narcissistic parent. Who due to their own traumas will reinforce the negative thoughts to help push the break up and bring their child back to them. Mother gloated about the break up for a decade throwing it in my face every chance she got. Though having my mom tell me nobody will ever love me except my mother was too much and has pushed me to put myself back out there. Been about 14 years since the break up with my ex. We have just started talking again. It hurts because I never quite got over losing her. We were two peas in a pod, the missing pieces of the puzzle. Our personalities aligned so much it was uncanny. The only person I ever felt I didn't have to hide anything about myself with. I miss them, but don't want to put them through that again.
